Given those strange and non-intuitive percentages you see attached to every comment and every piece of feedback, and given that pretty soon you’ll see more of those strange and non-intuitive percentages speckled all over the site, it’s getting to the point at which we’re going to have to provide users with some beautifully clear and simple explanations of Bayesian statistics.
And, as a Bayesian rookie learning from Carl and the internets, I realize that there’s a lot to explain.
But, luckily, I’ve just heard news from Nate, a friend and intern from back in the LanguageCalls days. He just finished writing his thesis. A thesis on Bayesian statistics.
Nate and I met when we were both posing as professional fishermen in a fishing tournament in a rivertown in Jiangxi Province in south central China.
I promised the developers that, once Nate has worked his Bayesian magic and helped us explain our rating system with finesse and grace, I’d celebrate by writing at least part of the fish story on this blog.

So this means that Nate is coming on the scene with a simple breakdown of Bayesian statistics and what it means for the Carrot Project on this blog?

If Nate wants to do that, he’ll be welcome. But the first step is for us to explain to Nate what we’ve built and are building and get him to look over our shoulders as we write the explanations of the percentage ratings.
