It’s very amazing: we have a double moral in our society…
If I’m a thief, and I’m stealing, and the police catches me, and I’m being brought before the judge, and I will say to the judge: “But i promise I will steal less,” what do you think the judge will say?
“Forget about it! In jail! Serve your time!”
And here comes the businessman, who’s been polluting with mercury and with lead, and then he says, “I’m going to pollute less,” and guess what we do with him?
We give him an environmental award.
Gunter Pauli said that, last weekend, at the Lift Conference, about six minutes into a long talk.
Not sure he’d approve of The Carrot Project.
And, frankly, that’s understandable. We are in danger of celebrating thieves that pledge to steal less, and we can’t forget that.

We, The Carrot Project, won’t be award-getters.
We’ll be award-givers. Sort of anyway.
Once we get this thing stuffed full of solid content and drifting around among a community of crunchy-minded people, we will be in effect giving our vote of confidence to the brands that top our lists.
And I can’t imagine any of those brands will be perfect (or up to Gunter’s standards). They’ll be thieves that have pledged to steal less. Or reforming thieves. Or recovering thieves.
And we’ll be promoting them, telling people that they’re crunchier (and, thus, from our angle, better) than their competitors. So, if they notice (which they will once we get this tool out to enough people and enough of the people we get it to love it), they’ll feel like we’ve given them something like an award.
Make sense?
Sorry to have been unclear in the post. Thanks for commenting.

Well, when the stealing is legal (but still stealing) it is kind of admirable that they’ve shown some restraint.
A lot of times I hear “just because you can, doesn’t mean that you should”. And in this case the recognition that they shouldn’t is certainly a good thing.
