Big apologies to the Obamas for Friday’s post.
One bummer about reading newspapers online is that big, unfoldable visuals turn into fine print thumbnails. Notice what’s growing in the garden’s bottom right hand corner…
And fine print is no excuse. I should have paid closer attention.
I love you, Michelle. And you too, Barack. Thank you both for not neglecting carrots.

Here’s a fantastic article that reviews the Obama’s garden from a permaculture/sustainability persuasion.
The author recommends planting (more) carrots with the onion family to confuse the carrot flies, good to know.
Other good recommendations:
-Closer to the house, lose more of that lawn.
-Fruit, the Obama’s didn’t plant any, I think an orchard is in order for next year.
-More diversity, fewer boundaries. Companion plant and really mix that salad mix up.
-Get rainbarrels for the garden’s water, a compost pile maybe, and Jimmy Carters Solar Panels should go back up.
I’m glad there’s a garden at the White House, the world seems a little bit safer now. I hope they take it much further.

I think a safer world is a great way to think about it.
