The Carrot Project is working to increase the marketing value of crunchiness.
Think that sounds too cynically capitalist?
Might it chase people away? Should it chase people away?
I hope not. It’s one of the big things we’re trying to do. And I think it’s a good thing to try to do.

I see that Jake de Grazia is continuing to think about the ways rhetoric will be instrumental in motivating people to change their behavior. :) Your metaphorMe days are still with you…
I dunno… The word “crunchy” has already been branded, and the connotations that come with that word are not synonymous with “efficient,” “informed,” or “sophisticated.” It works great when used lightly (“Like a hippie. Or a carrot.” …or the bunnies, which are adorable). But I don’t know if you want to put energy into changing the market value of a word when there might be a better one that doesn’t already reek of patchouli and hemp. (There is a reason that Democrats don’t call themselves liberals now.)
That, and I’m not sure that what you’re doing with this project is the internet equivalent of making one’s own granola and living in a geodome (that is when one isn’t following the Dead). “Crunchy” implies a level of polemic that the carrot project doesn’t seem to match (nor should it). What you seem to be offering your visitors is information and choice. The rest is up to them. That’s what’s refreshing about this site and that’s what will keep reasonable and environmentally conscious people coming back.
So… yeah… that’s my 2 cents. Do I have a better adjective? Not at the moment. But I’ll keep it in mind.
Cheers, Kei.
ps And again, the site is looking BEAUTIFUL. Great job!

Maybe my lack of aversion to Crunchy has to do with my feeling that the original crunchies are such a mellow crowd that they wouldn’t mind if we adjusted the definition of their adjective.
