I should be able to subscribe to threads that I haven’t commented on. (The reason I want to do this right now is that I’d like to be subscribed to the threads that I commented on before the subscription feature, but I think I should be able to do that for any thread anyway.)
Actually, you have the ability to subscribe to any thread; it’s just that the UI for it is currently a bit on the subtle side :-) Just click on the star icon up to the left of the page title. In addition to comment threads, this allows you to subscribe to anything new in a product category, and to new feedback (on the feedback list page).
RSS feeds are definitely high on the priority list.

The subscription settings are great!
