Helping people find great local businesses is on the list of things to do. It’s not high on the list, however, because before we can do that well, we need to develop a community of users that share lots of information about the local businesses they support. So, step one toward creating a system that takes geography into account, is convincing everyone to share share share.

I agree…. that said I don’t think it would be hard to do once a plan was put together…. and it might help stimulate more users…a kind of crowd sourcing phenomenon. Once one local community has been done it should be relatively easy to take the principles and apply elsewhere. Getting the community going will require some stimulus and making things real for people. I also think that this will also enable you to discover and evaluate potential commercial models for the site.
